JORHAT, July 22: It is now post-flood period for the people of Majuli as 100 have fallen ill in the flood-affected areas. Pallav Gopal Jha, the Deputy Commission, ren Das, Bismoi th, both Additiol Deputy Commissioners, Ajit Kumar Sharma, Circle Officer, Jennifer Yasmin Choudhury and Juli Gogoi, both extra assistant commissioners and Rajendra Baruah, District Information and Public Relation Officer, are all reported to be suffering from fever and discomfort while most of them, including the Deputy Commissioner, had to be rushed to Jorhat Medical College and Hospital (JMCH). Tests and check-ups were done and reports were negative. All are recovering very fast. The administrative officials fell ill due to working round-the-clock in flood-prone areas.
Around 170 villages were affected in the second wave of flood recently. “There is no epidemic-like situation in the flood-prone areas, everything is under control,” said Dr.Dhrubjyoti Saikai, the chief medical officer of Majuli island district.
Dr. Saikia said that a total of eight mobile medical units were holding camps in the flood-affected areas and medical teams were providing round-the-clock at PHEs at Bongaon, Dokhinpaat, Kamalabari, yabazaar, Ratanpur and Goromur. The 108 service has been kept on alert to reach from Kamalabari ghat to Neematighat. No casualty has been reported. But controllable diseases like headache, diarrhoea, loose motion, body pain, itching and skin diseases are quite common.
In affected areas like Selek no.1 and no.2, Malapindha, Kamalpur, Bordubi, duar, Charighoria, Mohorichuk, Missamora, Pegu Chuck, Major chapori, Sengali Huti, Loliti, Kukhol Chuk and Bogoriguree, people and animals are falling ill post-flood and sick people are being ferried to JMCH for better treatment, said NHM officials.
