Mesmerizing Bhairabkunda beckons picnickers

TANGLA, Dec 3: With the arrival of picnic season, one of the most popular picnic hotspots of the State located 137 km away from the State capital, Bhairabkunda with all her unmatched scenic beauty is once again ready to welcome tourists and picnic lovers. Bhairabkunda located in Udalguri has been a tourist destition since a long time. But the tourist flow was

disrupted during the Assam and Bodo movements in the 80s and 90s.

But with peace returning to the BTAD area, people have started visiting Bhairabkunda again. Bhairabkunda has been the picturesque triangular border of Assam, Aruchal Pradesh and Bhutan. Thousands of ture-loving people visit Bhairabkunda every year to share romantic

moments with ture. Perhaps time itself dances to the tune of fast-flowing roaring waves of the Dhansiri River. People can also taste the fishes available in the Dhansiri River.

Daifam, a small Bhutan township, is worth mentioning. One can easily experience the thrill of visiting a foreign country without passport or visas. The man-made forest - Gedsimani forest - under Joint Forest Magement (JFM) Committee, with more than 14 lakh well-grown tree saplings is a bonus point for tourists visiting Bhairabkunda. It has been a story of great success for villagers of six villages who had started something great in the year 2005 to proceed with

plantation of trees under JFM scheme. Plantation was done during 2007 to 2012. It has been a continuous process with people of six villages, planting more than 14 lakhs saplings till 2012.

All the saplings have been well protected by the villagers. Wild animals like elephants, leopards,

mongoose, python, deer, wild boar and various species of skes have found a tural habitat in the forest.

With rivers crisscrossing the verdant Assam-Bhutan-Aruchal border and the Bhairabkunda Reserve Forest providing some undulating trekking trails, there is definite scope for watching ture in a peaceful atmosphere. Bhairabkunda Eco Tourism and Conservation Society has taken up initiatives for the convenience of the visitors. As per information, the society members have already cleaned up the site with better waste magement.

“More than 1,000 people visit Bhairabkunda daily during picnic season. We have taken all precautiory measures so that traffic congestion or any untoward incident can be thwarted. All the picnic teams will be briefed about maintence of cleanliness and peace at the time of

their arrival,” said B. rzari, a society member.  “Water sports facilities like river rafting in the Dhansiri River will be an additiol attraction for visitors,” he added.
