SHILLONG, March 15: Shillong based RTI activist Disparsing Rani on Tuesday said that his RTI application seeking the current status of the Village Administration Bill (VAB) has been rejected by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as no information was furnished by them. “The Village Administration Bill (VAB) was passed by the KHADC and had been sent by the Governor to the Ministry of Home Affairs for examition. However this Bill falls under the state list so it is surprising why the Governor had to forward the Bill to the MHA department,” Rani told newsmen here on Tuesday.
The letter sent by the MHA North East Division to Rani stated, “Please refer to your letter dated 22 October 2015 and 30 October 2015 regarding the above mentioned subject (VAB) and to say that the information sought by you attracts para 8 (1) (e) and (i) of the Right to Information Act, 2005 and there, cannot be disclosed.”
He further said that it has taken four months just to get the RTI reply regarding the VAB.
