Morigaon gears up for Junbeel Mela

Morigaon, Jan 18: Like every year, this year too people will witness the barter system of goods with the arrival of Guva –Deoraja-Deepshing Deoraja and Pasim gaon Raja-Bhadrashing Deoraja on the second day of the Junbeel Mela which will begin from tomorrow and will continue till January 21.

The people who come down from the hills of Karbi Anglong district near the Assam-Meghalaya border will exchange their goods with the plain tribe people at Junbel Pathar from tomorrow. Junbeel Mela is celebrated soon after the Magh Bihu festival every year since rule of the Guva king. This mela is a place of unity for the hills and plain tribes people and other communities where people can enjoy the exchange of goods and community fishing and have fun and frolic.

The mela always begins with a picnic which is arrangedby the Guva king and his followers after fishing at Junbeel. On the second day, the day begins with the traditiol barter system practice by exchanging goods. The same day, people witness community fishing at Junbeel. On the third day, the court of the Guva king always begins after the community fishing at Aram beel, near Junbeel. Thereafter, the Guva Deoraja-Deepshing Deoraja and Pasim gaon Raja-Bhadrashing Deoraja start the rajdarbar.
