SHILLONG, Aug 31: Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma today said that the government will suggest the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to recall the KHADC (Village Administration) Bill, 2015.

Dr Sangma said this in a meeting with a delegation of the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Ka Bri U Hynniewtrep (SNSBH) here on Wednesday.

The Chief Minister said that after recalling the bill the KHADC can amend certain provisions which are in conflict with the Laws of the Parliament, which will allow it to become an Act.

“So today during the meeting we have collectively decided to take up the issue with the KHADC,” the Chief Minister said.

He also informed that the KHADC on Wednesday has also submitted its replies to the 12-point queries raised by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on the Village Administration Bill.

Dr Sangma also said that it cannot be presumed that the MHA will positively respond to the replies of the KHADC on the VAB.

“It is, therefore, in the best interest of the stakeholders to recall the bill,” the Chief Minister said.

Meanwhile, on the issue of the Building By-Laws the Chief Minister said that there was a need to segregate the Municipal areas from the Sixth Scheduled Areas.
