NHRC directs to compensate Lepetkata shootout victims

Dibrugarh, March 26: The tiol Rights Commission (NHRC) has asked the Central Government to pay additiol compensation of Rs 3 lakh to the victim and Rs 50,000 to all who were injured in the shootout incident that took place in front of Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Limited (BCPL) near Lepetkata under Barbaruah Police Station on March 2, 2012.

The NHRC, on receipts of complaint (106/3/5/2012-PF/DB-II) lodged by the chairman of an NGO, Assam Youths Welfare Association, Subash Dutta , vide its proceedings dated January 29, 2014 recommended to the secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to make an additiol payment of Rs 3 lakh to the deceased Mantu Orang and Rs 50,000 each to Nitu Gogoi, Biren Panging, Anuj Gogoi and Golap Saikia   who were injured during the shootout.

Pursuant to the directives of the Commission, the Union Government  had made the payment to the kin of the victim and injured persons vide demand drafts drawn on SBI, Dibrugarh   University.
