SHILLONG, June 26: Mawthadraishan legislator Brolding H Nongsiej has criticized the State government led by Chief Minister Mukul Sangma for introducing the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015.

Ineffectiveness of the bill resulted in resigtion of seven MDCs. Slamming the government on the ineffectiveness of the bill, Brol said, “If I am not mistaken, in these seven constituencies there are around 2 lakh voters and this toothless bill of Mukul Sangma government has disregarded them.”

“The aversion that Sangma has against the KHADC CEM P N Syiem has created a lot of problem for the people of those constituencies,” he said.

He said once the Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015 was passed, DCA Minister HDR Lyngdoh showed his weakness and resigned immediately because he was scared of losing his cabinet birth.

“After others followed suit in resigning, I stood strong and did not resign. But party leaders said that it is not wise to go against it,” he said. He said his resigtion was not due to persol reason but because of the ineffective Prevention of Disqualification (Members of the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya) Amendment Bill, 2015.
