On Teachers' Day, need for quality education emphasized

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 5: Along with the rest of the country, the 56th Teachers’ Day was celebrated in Kokrajhar and in different parts of BTC to mark the birth anniversary of former President of India, Dr. Sarvapalli Radhakrishn. In Kokrajhar, Teachers’ Day was celebrated in a befitting manner at Basic Training Centre, Kokrajhar with a day-long colourful programme. The programme was organized by the Department of Education, BTC.

As part of the programme, floral tribute was paid at the portrait of Dr. Sarvapalli  Radhakrishn by the Executive Member (EM) of Sports and Youth Welfare, BTC, Doneswar Goyary in presence of BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan and Education Director Rabi Shangkar Borgoyary.

BTC EM Doneswar Goyary, who attended the function as the chief guest, in his speech, called upon the teachers’ community to work for the uplift of education in the State. Stressing the need for quality education, he urged upon the teachers to dedicate themselves for service to student community and to build a strong society. He also said the people of BTC region had a council but there was still lack of efficient officers due to poor education. He further called upon the parents and guardians to look into qualitative education.

 BTC Principal Secretary BC Phukan, Bodoland University Vice-Chancellor Hemanta Kr. Baruah and others attended the function. A total of nine in-service teachers of Kokrajhar district were felicitated on the occasion. They were given Rs 5,000 in cash, citation, Aroi and books each. Moreover, 151 retired teachers in the district were also felicitated for their service. They were given a shawl, book, umbrella and Rs 1000 cash each.

Talking to reporters, the Director of Education department, BTC, Rabi Shangkar Borgoyary said a total of 552 retired teachers, including 151 in Kokrajhar, 217 in Baksa, 127 in Udalguri and 77 in Chirang were felicitated. Besides, total 36 in-service teachers, nine each in the four districts of Kokrajhar, Chirang, Baksa and Udalguri were awarded for good performance.
