JORHAT, APRIL 22: Over 2600 population of four villages under Teok revenue circle in Jorhat district have been affected by the first wave of floods on Friday. District administration officials distributed relief materials to the affected families and have been monitoring the situation.
Due to the heavy and incessant rainfall in the past few days the water level of Brahmaputra and its tributaries have been raising causing inundation of several villages in Jorhat west and Teok revenue circle since Thursday.
According to a district administration official, they have distributed rice, pulse and salt among the affected families of 2 No Kawoimari, Sumoimari, Gelekoni and Boipathar under Teok revenue circle on Friday.
Meanwhile due to the heavy rainfall several parts of Jorhat town have been affected by water logging on Friday. Many parts of the town like Tarajan Kakoti Gaon, Bamun Gaon, Kushal gar, Atila Gaon and Nehru Park have been submerged by waters. The Deputy commissioner office premises is also being submerged by waters since Thursday causing serious affect to the normal official work.
According to a CWC report Brahmaputra and its tributaries are still on rising trend and if the showers continue Brahmaputra will cross the danger mark at Neematighat in the next twelve hours.
Meanwhile, part of the the Jorhat Rowriah Kathanibari bridge washed away by water in the Aathubhonga rivulet blocking both ways of the Borbheeti area in Jorhat. As alleged the bridge was built by both the block and panchayat committee twelve years back and had irregularities in construction led to its fall in the wake of rising water due to incessant rains.
