IMPHAL May 31: Though Assam has shown that its health officials and police are alert and raid some of the suspected business centres to confiscate food and drinks which have become poisonous due to the mandatory expiry of the time limit. As is happening in many parts of Assam it is a fact that unscrupulous traders have been scratching the expiry date to reprint new dates.

On Saturday a housewife was admitted in the hospital in a serious condition. She had become unconscious after drinking one packet of cold drink. She later told reporters that the drink had become sour as it has expired.

The government has banned sale of the same products in three shops. It is not known that other shops and roadside kiosks have huge stock of such stuff. There had been warnings about such tamperings by the unscrupulous traders. However the government did not pay heed to it. But then some decades back two school boys died while the third escaped death. There is total absence of government actions against these traders.
