Police fire in air to disperse mob

SHILLONG, Dec 29: It is reported that on December 24, around 9.30 pm, O/C Ranikor PS deputed two of his staff in a government vehicle to deliver food items to Police personnel posted at Gomaghat Check Post (SWKH). While on the way, Police detected some boys from Ranikor (SWKH) blocking vehicular traffic on the road and were duly asked not to do so. But they became aggressive and an altercation ensued between them and Police.

On receipt of information, O/C Ranikor PS rushed to the spot and detected one Chegan D Shira at the PO and the matter was amicably settled with the boy in presence of his parents.

However, later his mother alleged that her son was targeted by Police. At about 1.30 pm, a group of people (100) belonging to Garo community gathered at Ranikor PS compound, used filthy language and also assaulted one UB Constable Dhupsing Marwein and some Battalion personnel. As the situation became unmageable, Police fired one round in the air with a service pistol to disperse the crowd.

In another incident on December 27, around 8.50 pm, unknown miscreants assaulted one mentally unstable person mely, Ganesh Debbarman of West Tripura while he was travelling in a Tripura bound bus (AS-01Q-2529) at Pomura under Mawryngkneng PS (EKH). Later, the victim fled to a nearby jungle.

Meanwhile, two minor boys on December 27, mely Demistar Lyngdoh Mawphlang (11) and Ronister Lyngdoh Mawphlang were found missing from their residence at Mawlai Mawtawar (EKH).
