Dibrugarh, August 17: The first division holders and two rank holders of the HSLC and Higher Secondary Examition, 2016, were felicitated by the Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Parishad (SKACP) at a function held at the Rang Ghar Auditorium of Dibrugarh University on Tuesday. A total of 866 students of the district were given away a cash reward of Rs 10,000 each by SAKC.
About 1,166 students from the indigenous community were chosen as beneficiaries. Students from the districts of Sibsagar, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat and Golaghat received their scholarships in the first phase of the felicitation ceremony. In the second phase of the ceremony, to be held at the north banks of the Brahmaputra, 300 students from the districts of Lakhimpur and Dhemaji will be felicitated.
Among the selected students, the 8th rank holder in the 2016 HSLC examition, Diksha Priyam Sonowal of mrup was given a cheque of Rs 1 lakh , while the Best Graduate of Dibrugarh University of 2016, Rojori Sonowal, a student of MDKG College and resident of Banipur, Dibrugarh, was awarded with a cheque of Rs 25,000 as one-time scholarships.
The scholarships were given away by the Minister of Fince, Health and Education of the Government of Assam, Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, who in his address, claimed that the role of the State Government in strengthening the roots of the education sector in the State had brought significant changes and the proposed initiative of the government to provide free admission to underprivileged students in high school medium, would surely benefit the students. Dr Sarma further stated that more than 60 students had succeeded in getting free admission in high school medium, after having been forced to leave their education for want of money.
In this regard, the Education Minister announced that from the next education year, free admission would be offered to poor students under Dibrugarh University and Gauhati University. Dr. Sarma even said that books of ninth standard would be given away at no cost, and from ensuing years, books of higher medium would be provided free of cost.
Moreover, under Atal Amrit Yoja, compensation of Rs 2 lakh would be given for medical treatment of students. This scheme will be available for 525 types of diseases. Through, a separate scheme med Arohan for meritorious students of villages, institutions or persons will be given responsibility for career counseling and ethical guidance for their career founding.
The minister also extended a grant of Rs 5 crore to the authorities of SAKCP for the construction of their permanent office building.
In the function, the Vice-Chancellor of Dibrugarh University, Dr. Alak Kumar Buragohain, formally released the booklet titled Amar Pratibha Amar Gaurav, where the iugural speech was delivered by the Chief Executive Member of the BJP party newly-formed Sonowal Kachari Autonomous Council Parishad, Dipuranjan Makrary.
The felicitation ceremony , anchored by the press adviser of SAKCP, Pem Thi Gohain and research student Gyashree Bora was attended amongst others by Dibrugarh MLA , Prashanta Phukan ; Duliajan MLA, Teros Gowala ; Lahowal MLA , Ritupar Borua ; Registrar of Dibrugarh University , Dr. MN Dutta ; Professor , Dr. Domborudhar th ; Dr. Jiten Hazarika ; chief secretary of SAKC and Additiol Commissioner, Hemanta Kumar Das ; chairman Madan Chandra Hazarika ; vice Chief Executive Member Tankeswar Sonowal ; vice-chairman Ghakanta Saikia; Executive members of Education department, Khanindra Sonowal and other executive members and senior officials of the Parishad , as well as well-known persons of the community.
