Guwahati, February 16: BJP tiol executive member Pradyut Bora may quit the party, party sources said today, claiming that the senior leader is not happy at the state of affairs in the State unit.

The sources said that Bora, who had contested the last assembly elections unsuccessfully against Himanta Biswa Sarma in Jalukbari, may quit politics as well.

Ever since Siddhartha Bhattacharjee took over the State unit as its president, several senior leaders had become ictive.

Sources indicated that many in the party were not happy at Bhattacharjee’s ‘autocratic’ style of functioning. It is reported that he does not give importance to many senior leaders and never discusses matters with them.

Earlier, party spokesman Adip Phukan had resigned from the party.

Pradyut Bora was instrumental in bringing Sarbanda Sonowal to the party. He also played a key role in preventing Himanta Biswa Sarma’s entry to the BJP.

He is not being seen at BJP programmes or party functions from a long time. Bora only used to air his views through the social networking sites.

It appears that the BJP’s rise in popularity graph has had a negative impact on the party.

Due to its interl bickering, sources said, the party had to lose some wards in the recent civic election.

For example, in the Mariani town committee elections, the party could not fare well due to the interl differences.

Its local leader in Mariani Alok Ghosh had quit the party, just days before the civic elections, and had joined the NCP. He alleged that Jorhat MP Kamakhya Tasa did not approve the list of candidates for the elections to the five wards in Mariani. Ghosh then joined the NCP and fielded his own candidates. Four NCP candidates romped home, leaving just one seat for the BJP.
