Rekindling the heroics of the Garo Labour Corps

SHILLONG, July 16: Respect, honour and invigoration of the valour and responsibilities marked the 6th Garo Labour Corps day in Tura on Thursday.  The day marked the departure of the Garo brave hearts that died while going to France to help the British during the First World War.

The function was held at the cenotaph located in the heart of Tura town where the mes of the volunteers were engraved. Speaking at the function as chief guest, Chairman of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) PK. Sangma reminded the youths about the sense of responsibility of the Garo forefathers and their great love for the motherland. In urging the present generation to inculcate the same spirit, Sangma said, “Our forefathers have set an example on how the people or tion should come forward and rise to the situation to protect their land.” Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Pravin Bakshi termed this historic day as one of the most important day after Independence Day and Republic Day in the history of the Garos.
