Itanagar, May 3: A male slow loris, which was rescued by Amak Perme of Mirbuk village under East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, was released at Daying Ering Memorial Wildlife Sanctuary’s Borguli Range on Monday by DFO Tasang Taga and Forest Ranger Naning Perme.
The slow loris was found stranded in the residential compound of Amak Perme at Mirbuk village who informed the DFO (Wildlife) Tasang Taga and the primate was taken into the custody of the department on Sunday last, and released in the thick forest area of Borguli range where two similar primates were already released in the past.
Meanwhile, DFO Taga appreciated the love and care shown to wild animals by Amak Perme and appealed to all concerned to inform his department whenever they find any wild animal in distress.
While releasing the primate in the sanctuary, Taga also inspected the damaged watch tower of Borguli Range and expressed his displeasure over the dilapidated range office barrack there.
The slow loris are a group of five species of Strepsirrhine primate, which make up the Genus Nycticebus, and this ‘Nycticebus bengalensis’ are locally called Lajuki Bandor in Assamese and Besung Raaye in Adi.
Found in South and Southeast Asia, they range from Bangladesh and Northeast India in the east to the Philippines.
