ITAGAR, July 1: The Aruchal Pradesh government has announced to increase the superannuation age of doctors to 62 years from the existing 58 years.
This has been done in keeping with the Prime Minister’s special announcement for enhancing the age of superannuation of all doctors of the Central Health Service to 65 years with effect from May 31 last, an official report informed.
It is a widely acceptable fact that the learning curve of the doctors increases with age and their knowledge and experience keeps growing as they grow older, the report said.
Also with the coming up of the medical college in the state, there would be a need for experienced doctors, both to treat patients and teach.
It may be noted that with the enhancement of age, it would have no impact on the intake of doctors and the question of blockage at entry grade does not arise. This is because there is huge shortfall of doctors all over the state and new posts have been created.
Even doctors holding administrative posts would be of critical difference in the administration of upcoming medical college and other new teaching and training institutions, the report said.
The enhancement of superannuation age of doctors would not in the least affect employment in the state or pose a problem on the question of unemployed doctors, the report added.
