ri Mukti Sangram Samiti demands arrest of chit fund officials

Jorhat, June 15: Activists of ri Mukti Sangram Samiti (NMSS), the women wing of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti, Jorhat town committee, on Wednesday staged a dhar in front of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding immediate arrest of the officials of a chit fund company working in the three upper Assam districts of Jorhat, Sivasagar and Golaghat.

The women’s body also submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister seeking immediate intervention from the government against the illegal works of chit funds in the State.

“Amor-Astha agent of LICI Real Estate Business Insurance Marketing, a chit fund working in the three upper Assam districts has allegedly collected lakhs of rupees from the people living here by allegedly cheating or using some other illegal means. They formed a 16-member committee with one Krish Kanta Bora as president and Ram Kumar Baruah as secretary and collected lakhs of rupees from the people by giving some false assurance to provide loan to the beneficiaries. But after collecting crores of rupees, the office bearers of the chit fund are found absconding,” said the protesters.

The president and secretary of NMSS demanded the immediate arrest of the 16 office bearers of the chit fund in order to recover the public money as soon as possible.

Jorhat Extra Assistant Commissioner Debahuti Borah received the memorandum from the activists on behalf of the Jorhat Deputy Commissioner and assured them that their memorandum would be sent to the Chief Minister immediately.

The protesters also shouted slogans against the officials of the chit fund by showing placards. They have demanded immediate arrest of the 16 office bearers and threatened to take up rigorous agitation unless their demands were fulfilled.
