Shillong, March 19:  Congress legislator from Mawlai, Process T Sawkmie, on Monday batted for introduction of Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state. Moving the amendments to the motion of thanks to the Governor’s address in the Meghalaya Assembly, Sawkmie said, that ILP was the best solution to curb influx.

Sawkmie while expressing his regret that the Governor failed to mention incrase of influx in the state in his address said, “We cannot compromise on the identity of our people.”

He also expressed fear that the indigenous people of Meghalaya will have nowhere to go if they are overwhelmed by illegal immigrants.

Quoting United States of America President, Dold Trump of “America First”, Sawkmie said the government should first protect the indigenous Khasi-Jaintia and Garo communities.

“We should protect our own people first,” the Congress legislator from Mawlai said.
