Itagar, February 24: As the euphoria over the 29th statehood day dwindles and life limps back to normalcy, not much would have changed for students of a government school in msai district.
Back in December 2009, the Government Secondary School at Lathao was upgraded to the higher secondary level. Six batches later, the school continues to function without a single senior teacher. Taking up the cause for the school is the All Tai Khampti Singpho Students’ Union (ATKSSU) which has written to the state director of higher education regarding the matter.
In their letter, the union claimed that this is the “sixth batch of 10+2 students since up-gradation of the school without any single subject senior teacher”. Seeking an expedition of request for teachers and other faculty, ATKSSU said the school also needs staff quarters, a boundary wall and an auditorium.
Despite the obvious challenges the school faces, students have been able to perform well academically. During the first year after the school was upgraded, all 34 students passed the central examitions without a glitch, the current principal of the school N Ri informed. The staff now fears the worst for their students.
