Silchar, Aug 4: Unprecedented heat has been scorching the Valley for the last few days. Though residents have resorted to many ways for escaping from the heat, yet there seems to be no relief. The mercurial rise in the average, temperature, which ranges from 30 to 34 degrees Celsius, has made life miserable for the residents of this town. At times, it rises above the average temperature. The extreme weather condition has led to wilting of plants. The scorching sunrays heat the surfaces of the road, building wall, roofs and tin roofs. A water rank too gets heated, which in turn, makes it difficult for the people to take a cool and refreshing bath. In addition to this, more than 80% humidity as recorded, adds to woos of the people. Students, employees and people from all walks of life are suffering from the severe heat. Labourers, rickshaw-pullers and farmers are the worst hit since they have to burn themselves in the Sun for earning a livelihood. Owing to the excessive heat, comparatively less people are seen on the streets. The burning sunrays have kept people indoors, either at their workplaces or at home.
It should be mentioned that such weather benefits ice cream and fruit juice sellers. These vendors can be seen occupying every nook and corner of the town, as they do not want to miss the opportunity to make a few extra bucks. People are also seen taking a sip of the various juices that are being sold, in order to beat the heat. Each glass of juice is being sold at Rs.10 to Rs.20. Pineapple and lemons juices are commonly found with the vendors. Ice cream parlours are also flourishing as more people are seen relishing on a flavour or two. If temperature does not come down, it will be difficult to brave the weather. The extreme heat and humidity have adversely told on the agility and work efficiency of all kinds of working people at home, in office and other work places.
