Jorhat, July 12: The Jorhat district administration has promulgated section 144 of Cr.PC restricting sand mining in Upor Deori Gaon under Jorhat West Revenue Circle on Tuesday. By a statement, District Information and Public Relation officer Bijendra Gogoi said, “From reliable sources and field visits, district administration has learnt that large-scale sand mining adjacent to the Brahmaputra dyke at Upor Deori Gaon under Jorhat West Revenue Circle has been going on for last several months. Such sand mining without valid permission is illegal activity leading to huge loss to the State exchequer. Further, in view of the ongoing flood season, continuity of such sand mining very adjacent to the Brahmaputra dyke is posing serious threat to the foundation of the dyke and this may ultimately lead to breach of the dyke and may trigger devastation in the nearby villages. In view of this, the district administration has promulgated the prohibitory order 144 Cr.PC restricting all such parties/persons from entering into the site for sand mining along with their men and machinery.” He added, “This order comes into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until further order. Any violation to this order is punishable by u/s 188 of Indian Pel Code.”
