Semir on 'messengers of peace' held in Tezpur

Tezpur, August 17: Don Bosco Socio-technical Institute, Tezpur, organized a one-day semir on the theme ‘Messengers of Peace’ on Tuesday It was also to mark the second foundation day of the institute in Tezpur and to honor the great educator and saint John Bosco on his 201th birth anniversary.

The institution is making unremitting efforts for development of socio-culture through basic education. The Institute established in 2015 at Dekargaon-Mission Chariali here with a mission to provide yeoman’s service to the society through various needful social activities, has been imparting training to the youths of the locality and the neighbouring districts in various skills.

In the semir, the Director of the Institute, Father Cletus said that more than 1,000 youths had been benefited from this institute through various skill-building training programmes during the last one year. Among other dignitaries, Father V. M Thomas, the Provincial of Guwahati province of the Silesian of Don Bosco, insisted to dream and make the dream into a reality. “Peace is possible only it begins with us,” he said.

Neera Sharma, social worker, designer and bamboo lady of India who graced the occasion, emphasized the need for bringing peace by cultivating peace within.  Dr. Joyshankar Hazarika, Principal, Darrang College, Tezpur highlighted the need of being that change that you want to be.  He exhorted the youths to take up the challenges to meet the present intolerance scerio with courage.

Rupali Daimari, professor, Tezpur College, in her thought provoking message asked the youngsters to feel for one another. “When we are happy, peace comes as a result. When you help others in need you automatically become the messenger of peace. When we have peace with ourselves we are able to share it with others.”

There were 22 young speakers who spoke about promoting peace. Each one emphasized the need for inculcating peace within to start as a messenger of peace. Other speakers who attended the semir highlighted that the peace was not made in the laboratory, but in the hearts of people.

In order to make the semir interesting, there were also some theme items. Many of the Principals from different educatiol institutions were present in the occasion.
