SHILLONG, Sept 28: To ensure the visibility of the field workers of the Shillong Municipal Board (SMB) the board awarded and distributed uniforms to these workers here on Wednesday. The workers which included drivers, sweepers, mazdoor, trolley attendant, and others received awards along with the uniforms, certificate. Speaking on the occasion as a chief guest, Minister In-charge Urban Affairs, Ronnie V Lyngdoh has once again urged people to abstain the use of plastic bags which is very hard to decompose and cause lots of pollution. “I will also take up the matter with the concern department to introduce the cloth bag in place of the plastic so as to address this problem,” he said. He also lauded the SMB workers who play a vital role in keeping the city clean and told that they deserved due recognition for their hard work. Earlier in his speech Director Urban Affairs, BK Dutta informed that in a meeting with all the local Dorbars of Shillong held yesterday, the various drawbacks of the SMB was pointed out as well as the corporation that is needed from the Dorbar Shnong side was discussed. Stating that the meeting with all the Dorbars was very fruitful, Dutta said, “We have also realize that this magement is not a one sided story and people cannot just keep blaming the SMB without contributing a bit in bringing in a clean city.”
