Social stigma associated with AIDS discussed

Dibrugarh, Dec 2: World AIDS Day was observed jointly by non-government organization SEWA and C. Steeward with an awareness meeting and poster-drawing competition among school children. To mark the day, an awareness rally was also brought out by the NSS members and students of the college and SEWA members from DHSKC College, which was formally flagged off by the chairperson of the Dibrugarh Municipality Board, Soma Chakraborty.
An awareness meeting organized after culmition of the rally at DHSK Commerce College was hosted by Project Director of SEWA, Arfan Hussain. The Nodal Officer, ART Centre, Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH), Dr Bipul Kalita  and Medical Officer of ART, AMCH, Dr Biswajit Borthakur attended the meeting as special guests, who in their respective address spoke on various aspects of the dreaded diseases, social stigma and its prevention.
Earlier, the secretary of the SEWA, Altaf Hussain gave a short account on the subject and purpose for holding such awareness meeting.
Sneha Saha bagged the first prize in the poster-drawing competition that was organized among the school children in the college while second and third prizes went to Snigdha Pator and Preyashi Bora respectively.
The Principal, DHSKC College, Dr KM Bhagawati, founder president of SEWA, Shanti Gogoi and NSS Programme Officer, K. Haloi, amongst others, graced the meeting. The day was also observed by the district administration, ASHA and tiol Rural Health Mission (NRHM) with various programmes.
