SHILLONG, June 7: The Sohkha Shnong Music Club (SSMC) on Sunday launched their official website www.sohkhasmc.org at Enowel Hall Amlarem in the presence of MLA Stephanson Mukhim.
SSMC is one of the oldest Music Club from Jaintia Hills which was founded on February 4, 1969 with the aim to uplift the musical culture in War Jaintia with the motto 'Love, Hope and Peace'. This music club was also recognized by the government in the year 1972.
Speaking on the occasion, S. Mukhim said that the website, which is a first of its kind in War Jaintia, will encourage other people from this region to take up similar steps.
Mukhim also praised the efforts of the SSMC and urged the members of the club to promote the region of War Jaintia through their website so that the country and the world will know its beauty.
"Youths should not always run after a government job. Instead they should try and develop their skills in music and make it a source of livelihood," he felt.
The SSMC further informed that they will be organizing the Rockathon 2015 Open Air Beat Contest on October 30 this year. They also urged all the Rock bands from the State and those from outside to participate in the event in which the winner will take away Rs 5 lakh.
