Silchar, Aug 5: The Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist), district Committee, has observed the 41st death anniversary of their former general secretary, leader, guide and teacher, comrade Shibdas Ghosh, at the meeting hall of Madhya Sohor Sanskritik Samiti in Silchar on Saturday.  The day has been celebrated across 22 states of the country today. Shibdas Ghosh breathed his last following an acute myocardial infarction (severe and massive heart attack) on August 5, 1976, at the party's Central Commune in Calcutta at the age of 53. Immediately after his sudden and premature demise the Central Committee took the resolution of paying homage to the memory of the great departed leader.
Addressing the commemoration function as the chief-speaker, Suraj Jamal Mondal, member of the state committee of SUCI (C), said, "SUCI (C) expresses its profound and deepest grief at the sudden and premature demise of comrade Shibdas Ghosh who was friend, philosopher and guide. He was one of the outstanding Marxist thinkers of the present era. It was Shibdas Ghosh who concretised Marxism-Leninism on the Indian soil and developed, elaborated and enriched many aspects of it. Realizing the need of a revolution, marked by absence of a genuine working class party, Shibdas Ghosh took upon himself the historic task of building a revolutiory party of the proletariat"
Suraj Jamal Mondal also laid emphasis on the need of a unified revolution and mass movement. "The present Government has failed to deliver its promises. Prime Minister rendra Modi promised to dissolve the detention camps at a mass rally held at Ramgar, Silchar. But no concrete steps have been taken to dissolve it. In addition to this, demonetization and introduction of GST has been harassing people. All political parties have ulterior motives. It is the richer sections of people who are ruling the roast. The rich are getting richer day-by-day. Our society is at crossroads. We are heading nowhere. Our future lurks in the dark."
"Shibdas Ghosh's contribution to the ideological fields of intertiol communist movement made him a communist leader of unique distinction. He was the first to point out that modern revisionism-reformism was the main danger in the present day intertiol communist movement and showed the correct line of struggle against it," Suraj Jamal Mondal added to say. In his welcome address, Santanu Kurmi, secretary of the state committee of SUCI (C), said that it is important to follow the oath shown by Shibdas Ghosh. "CPI (M) did not follow the path of Marx, Lenin and Stalin and thus parted in the long run."
Lamenting the loss of Shibdas Ghosh, Santanu Kurmi said, "His sudden demise at the tender age of 53 created a void. His chequered life is unparalleled. He was arrested during the Quit India Movement in the year 1942 and released after 3 years. Shibdas Ghosh was an active member and always on his toes. Leaders like him had gone, never to return." It is relevant to mention here that a state level meeting will be held in Guwahati on August 8 which will be graced by the presence of the dymic persolity and leader comrade Ajit Bhattacharjee.
