Tension over CPM-BJP clash in Tripura, SFI leader injured

Agartala, May 3: The political scerio in Tripura suddenly turned tense following clashes between CPI(M) and BJP supporters in which several persons including the state secretary of the Students Federation of India barun Deb sustained injuries.

The two incidents of clashes were reported from Kamalpur in Dhalai district and Maheshtala in the outskirt of Agartala. Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the irritated mob in Maheshpur while five persons had to be admitted into hospital from Kamalpur.

The sudden spurt of violence has caused concern as the BJP president Amit Shah is scheduled to visit Tripura on May 6. Apart from deployment of additiol forces in the troubled areas police has taken precautiory measures to prevent any recurrence of such incidents.  

The first incident was reported from Kamalpur where the CPI(M) workers allegedly pelted stones on a street corner meeting of the BJP at Gopith Choumuhani  injuring three persons.

Provoked by the incident, the BJP workers chased them and then gheraoed the police station demanding arrest of two CPI(M) workers whom they could identify. After a prolonged demonstration the normalcy was restored after the two accused CPI(M) workers Jardhan Sarkar and ntu Deb were arrested.

In Maheshtala the tension begun with the reported assault of one BJP worker by the SFI state Secretary barun Deb on Monday morning. The BJP workers erected a road blocked at Dukli demanding barun’s arrest.

As no action was taken the BJP workers in large number started demonstrating in front of the house of barun Deb whose father rayan Deb is also a senior CPI(M) leader and secretary of the party’s Dukli local committee. Allegedly some properties of the house also were damaged by the demonstrators.

Receiving the information the local CPI(M) workers also rushed into the spot ensuing a clash between the supporters of the rival political parties.barun Deb also was attacked and sustained injuries. Police had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the warring mob.  The incidents sparked off tension across Tripura and both the parties are organizing protest rallies in different parts of the state.
