Silchar, Dec 30: Silchar terracotta fair cum exhibition has began from today at the District Sports Association ground. The 3-day fair cum exhibition will feature a number of art work items stacked for sale and display in the stalls. The fair at the 5th Gaan Mela, has been organized by Shomokal and Shorolipi along with a group of female singers from Kolkata and special artistes from Bangladesh, Lumding and Barak Valley. The fair will encourage artisans, self help groups and co-operative societies to display and sell their terracotta products.
Terracotta fairs encourage people to buy a lot of products since they do not cost dear. It should be mentioned here that there is a high market potential for such items as people buy them for decorating the interior and exterior of their houses. This also encourages the artisans to produce more products and remain employed throughout. A massive rally has been taken out by the members from the entrance of the District Sports Association ground.
