Tezpur, Oct 9: Tension prevailed at Dolabari area under Tezpur Police Station in Sonitpur district over liquor sale and gambling in Tezpur which was destroying the social environment. According to sources, Ajad Khan, Kasem Ali and Saddek Ali were running their illegal business of liquor and gambling at Dolabari area for a long time. Last light, aggrieved women with the support of Dolabari Mahila Samiti came out in large numbers and staged a protest.
The local woman alleged that some people were carrying out their illegal business in the area since a long time and majority of youth had become addicted to liquor. “As the authority concerned has not taken any action, we have taken this step to root out all such illegal businesses which are contamiting the society,” said some local women.
