SHILLONG, April 25: Two hardcore ‘civilian cadres’ of the Garo tiol Liberation Liberation Army (GNLA) surrendered before the police on Monday.
The duo - Simple Ch Momin nee Saljipa and Clever Ch Marak nee Dompa both of Dorengkigre surrendered at Williamgar police station.
They however did not submit any weapons as they were not issued any weapons by Sohan D Shira, police said.
According to police Saljipa and Dompa were recruited to help Sohan D Shira in providing logistic support for him as well as to spy on police teams entering Durama.
“Saljepa is responsible for procuring black SIM cards through agents from Dimapur and pass-on to Sohan D Shira and other GNLA top cadres,” police said.
He disclosed that a lot of people from Dimapur get pre activated SIM from the dealers of various mobile service providers and sell them in bulk at Rs 200 to Rs 250 per SIM card.
He also confessed before the police that he had supplied huge number of black SIM cards to GNLA during all these months.
“Dambo disclosed that many NSCN cadres sell weapons to militant groups operating in Garo Hills. Many of the AK rifles, Pistols, Gredes of GNLA were procured from Dimapur through NSCN cadres. Most of the AK Rifles from NSCN were procured at a rate ranging from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 6 lakh per weapon,” police informed.
Dambo revealed that Sohan has kept all the GNLA weapons and he procured a large number of AK weapons, pistols and kept them buried in Durama forest. He said that no one is allowed to the place where these weapons were buried expect Sohan and his close relatives.
Police also said that Sohan wants to sell these weapons to other militant groups once he come overground.
“There is huge demand for these weapons among the underground groups in Garo Hills,” Dambo told the police.
