World Red Cross Day observed

BILASIPARA, May 8: The World Red Cross Day was observed at Bilasipara in the premises of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan on Tuesday under the aegis of Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS), Bilasipara district branch. In this connection, the flag of the Red Cross Society was hoisted by Dr Kanu Lal Das, former chairman, IRCS, Bilasipara district branch in the morning. Jagadananda Barkalita, president of Bilasipara Senior Citizens' Forum, garlanded the portrait of Sir Jean Henry Dunant, the father of the Red Cross Society, followed by lighting of ceremonial lamp by Dr Kanu Lal Das.

A seminar was also held on the topic 'Everywhere for every one- Smile', with Dayal Paul as moderator. Dr. Kanu Lal Das delivered the welcome address. Dr. Haricharan Das, librarian, of Bilasipara College, Prof Emdad Hussain, lecturer of Rangamati College, and Jagadananda Barkalita participated in the seminar as resource persons. In this connection, a free medical health check-up camp for the senior citizens was organized by the Red Cross Society wherein a large number of senior citizens were examined and blood tests were done. Dr. Kanu Lal Das distributed  medicines free of cost.
