Itanagar: Hydro Power Development Corporation of Arunachal Pradesh Limited (HPDCAPL) CMD Toko Onuj stated during the HPDCAPL's 18th foundation day celebration at the banquet hall here on Sunday that the state has enormous hydropower potential and contributes 45% of the nation's hydropower capacity.
The HPDCAPL CMD underlined the critical role of hydro energy in the nation's power industry while highlighting the importance of green energy in combating global warming. He also highlighted HPDCAPL's accomplishments over the years, including commissioning the 3 mw Sumbachu SHP in 2020, moving closer to the 6 mw Mosi SHP's financial closure, completing the Selin and Anopani SHPs, owning 26% of joint ventures with central PSUs, and taking the lead in carbon credit trading in Arunachal.
Onuj commended the HPDCAPL staff for their efforts and urged them to recommit to reaching even higher goals in the days ahead.
In attendance, NERIST Director Prof. Narendranath S praised the HPDCAPL for its accomplishments and referred to it as a major player in the hydropower industry. He emphasised innovation and sustainability and said, "Hydropower production is a global challenge, but the environmental damage caused by India is negligible compared to developed nations. Constant innovation and community engagement, like opening health institutions in project areas, are essential for sustainable progress."
The chairman of the Arunachal Pradesh State Electricity Regulatory Commission, RK Joshi, congratulated the HPDCAPL on reaching the 18-year mark and encouraged the organisation to see it as the start of a new chapter.
Comparing the NTPC's advancements in thermal energy (57,000 mw) and hydro energy (8,000 mw) with the NHPC, he shared insights from India's energy history and challenged the HPDCAPL to utilise its resources and potential in Arunachal to the fullest.
NHPC General Manager VD Maharana, Research Director Sangey Dubey, GBPNIHE Regional Centre Head Dr. Devendra Kumar, CCF RE (Env & CC) Samuel Changkija, and Hydro Power Development Joint Secretary Hage Lailang were also in attendance.
