ITANAGAR: The Naharlagun Police has filed a charge sheet in the St Alphonso School water tank collapse case, which claimed the lives of three students. The charge sheet, submitted before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Yupia, on February 13, names three accused, the school principal Shaji Cherian, vice principal Kurian Pallikunnel John, and building owner Kapa Rai. Three others initially arrested have been dropped from the charge sheet.
Naharlagun SP Mihin Gambo confirmed on Saturday that the charge sheet includes multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
“The involvement of the three hostel wardens, Gaurav Gogoi, Dicky Kumar Das, and Kaushik Chetry, could not be established, as their role was limited to escorting students to classrooms by 8:30 AM. After completing their assigned duties, they engaged in other activities. Therefore, their names have been dropped from the charge sheet,” the SP said.
The tragic incident occurred on December 14 last year when an overhead water tank collapsed at the school, killing three students and severely injuring two others. Following the incident, five individuals, including the school building owner, principal, and three hostel wardens, were arrested.
Further investigation led to the arrest of vice principal Kurian Pallikunnel John from Guwahati, on December 27 last.
