Itanagar: Papum Pare deputy commissioner Vishakha Yadav on Thursday inaugurated a newly renovated smart classroom at government upper primary school at Kheel, urging stronger teacher accountability, community engagement, and swift action on infrastructure and resource gaps.

She proposed a “Teacher of the Month” award with financial incentives to recognise outstanding educators while warning that irregular and underperforming teachers would face strict action.

“The future of our children lies in the hands of our teachers,” she said, calling on school management committees (SMCs) to meet monthly and maintain proper reporting to the DDSE and DC office.

The smart classroom, part of a holistic rural development initiative by Citizen Foundation (a Ranchi-based NGO supported by HDFC Bank under its Parivartan initiative), was formally handed over to the school by HRDP Sagalee project manager Johny Kandula.

The foundation has been active in Sagalee since 2023, working across 15 panchayats on solar-powered infrastructure, health centre renovations, and support for SHGs involved in agriculture, horticulture, and small businesses.

Sagalee ADC Higio Yame advised students to steer clear of drugs and urged the DDSE to send substitute teachers to understaffed early learning centres.
