ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Film Collective (AFC) has voiced strong support for the students of the Film & Television Institute, Arunachal Pradesh (FTI AP), who launched an indefinite academic strike on May 15 last, protesting what they describe as appalling conditions on campus.
In a letter addressed to the students, the Collective extended its ‘unwavering solidarity’ with their demands for dignity, basic infrastructure, and a safe, functional learning environment.
The statement condemned the persistent lack of clean drinking water, erratic electricity supply, unfinished and unsafe classrooms, and the absence of campus security, issues that remain unresolved despite previous protests and official assurances.
“That these conditions persist despite earlier protests and official assurances is not just disappointing, it is a disgrace,” the statement read.
The Collective also raised serious concerns over the absence of institutional leadership, student identity cards, and a dedicated logo for FTI AP, issues they say effectively strip students of their identity and recognition as filmmakers in training.
“This is a denial of their identity and future as storytellers,” the Collective stated.
Calling the ongoing neglect of the institute a ‘systemic failure’, the group urged both the state government and the union Information and Broadcasting ministry, to take immediate corrective action.
