Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik on Tuesday extended his heartfelt greetings to the people of the state on the auspicious occasion of Christmas, celebrated across the world.

He expressed his hope that the festive season will bring peace, love, and serenity to the state, nation, and the world at large.

The governor in a message on Christmas eve said that the true spirit of Christmas lies in extending compassion to those in need, offering hope to the despairing, and providing support to the displaced.

“This festive season rekindles our commitment to work together in unity toward a brighter future for all. I am confident that this joyous occasion will inspire a sense of brotherhood in every individual and community,” he said. May this Christmas guide and inspire us to lead a life of compassion, empathy, and peace, Parnaik added in his message.

The governor in another message also extended his greetings to the people on the special occasion of ‘Good Governance Day,’ which commemorates the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

He expressed his hope that the occasion will inspire greater awareness among citizens about the importance of transparency, accountability, and responsive governance.

Parnaik said that Vajpayee was a visionary statesman, a gifted orator, and a distinguished writer. He consistently opposed corruption and inefficiency in governance, advocating that true empowerment of the people is achieved through rapid economic growth and social progress.

“Vajpayee firmly believed that empowering individuals is the key to empowering the nation. In recognition of his foresight and visionary leadership, the union government, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, designated December 25th as ‘Good Governance Day’ as a tribute to his enduring legacy and a reminder to all stakeholders in governance of their duty to uphold transparency, accountability and service to the people,” he said.

Parnaik said that good governance reflects a government’s capacity to design, formulate, and implement development-oriented policies and programs aimed at improving the quality of life of its citizens.

It fosters an inclusive, balanced, and continuous relationship between the government and the people. Core elements of good governance include responsive administration, prompt bureaucracy, revitalized welfare initiatives, and clearly defined responsibilities, he said.

Key indicators of good governance include political stability, effective government functioning, quality regulation, rule of law, and control of corruption, the governor said adding, everyone involved in governance must periodically review their role to ensure it remains visionary, egalitarian, and aligned with public welfare. “I am confident that this occasion will reignite our collective commitment to uphold the principles of good governance in the public interest,” the governor added.
