Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt Gen (Retd) K T Parnaik on Saturday inaugurated the 72-room Krishna Kumari Tribal Girls’ Hostel at the Arunachal University of Studies (AUS) campus in Namsai.
The Governor had earlier laid the foundation stone of the facility on March 19, 2024.
Praising the university’s commitment to inclusive infrastructure, the Governor said the hostel would provide a secure and nurturing environment, helping overcome barriers that often prevent young tribal girls from pursuing higher education, whether related to distance, safety, or financial constraints. He called the hostel ‘a gateway to the dreams of tribal students, aligning with the spirit of the aspirational district of Namsai, an official communiqué informed here.
Parnaik also visited the new boarding facility and commended its quality construction and thoughtful design.
In the same event, the governor also distributed laptops to 55 students from various disciplines who had demonstrated outstanding academic performance.
Calling the laptop a ‘key to knowledge’, he urged students to treat it as their ‘friend, guide, and philosopher’ to enhance their learning and articulation skills.
Built at a cost of Rs 6 crore, the Krishna Kumari Hostel includes 68 twin-sharing rooms and 4 single-occupancy rooms. It offers hygienic, safe, and well-equipped lodging with nutritious meals, 24-hour power backup, uninterrupted Wi-Fi, and a secure atmosphere to support focused academic life for students from tribal communities across the Northeast.
The laptop distribution was part of the university’s 'Students and Alumni upgrade programme', aimed at promoting academic excellence and digital empowerment.
