ITANAGAR: Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs & Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, George Kurian, underscored Arunachal Pradesh’s potential to become a surplus fish-producing state during his first official visit to the region.
Upon his arrival in Itanagar, Minister Kurian received a warm welcome from Gabriel D. Wangsu, Arunachal Pradesh’s Minister for Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Fisheries, among other portfolios.
The two ministers engaged in extensive discussions about their respective departments and areas of collaboration.
As part of his visit, Minister Kurian toured private fish farms owned by Dado John of Nonpu village and Tana Hari of Emchi, Doimukh.
During these visits, he interacted with local beneficiaries and gained firsthand insights into their challenges and opportunities.
Secretary (Fisheries) Hage Tari provided a comprehensive briefing on the state’s diverse aquaculture resources and the various initiatives undertaken by the department.
Highlighting Arunachal Pradesh’s unique agro-climatic zones and abundant resources, Minister Kurian emphasized the state’s capacity to not only meet internal demand but also to export table fish.
“The state has the capability to become self-sufficient in fish production and even contribute to the national market,” he stated.
He encouraged the fisheries department to work closely with farmers to maximize the benefits of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and State Plan Schemes.
