ITANAGAR: The Arunachal Pradesh Private Educational Institution Regulatory Commission concluded a two-day inspection at Himalayan University on Saturday. The expert committee, comprising 11 subject specialists, assessed various departments and identified several shortcomings.
During the inspection, faculty members raised concerns over salary discrimination, highlighting a significant pay gap between tribal and non-tribal employees. They reported that tribal staff with NET and PhD qualifications earn less than non-tribal counterparts holding similar positions as assistant professors or professors. Additionally, non-tribal employees with PhDs from Rajiv Gandhi University here, allegedly face discrimination in recruitment.
Faculty members also expressed grievances regarding disparities in house rent allowance, travelling allowances, provident fund, and dearness allowance. They claimed that only a few employees receive these benefits, leaving many local tribal staff without them. Furthermore, arbitrary salary delays were a common issue among the teaching staff.
The faculty informed the expert committee that such discriminatory practices violate fundamental rights enshrined in the Indian Constitution, particularly Article 14 (Right to Equality) and Article 21 (Right against Exploitation).
