ITANAGAR: Union Minister Kiren Rijiju on Tuesday expressed deep concern over attempts to delay the ambitious Frontier Highway project in Arunachal Pradesh, calling out what he termed as a ‘cancerous disease’ of compensation-related malpractices that are threatening to derail the state’s most significant infrastructure dream.

Speaking at a function, Rijiju said he was ‘saddened and equally happy’ about the project, happy because it marks a long-cherished dream for the state, and sad because a few vested interests are trying to delay it in the name of compensation.

“The Frontier Highway is the country’s biggest road project with a total outlay of Rs 42,000 crore. It’s our dream project to connect remote border areas that have been neglected for decades,” the Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs minister said.
