ITANAGAR: Kurung Kumey police on Wednesday arrested a 31-year-old man, Bengia Mangkum, for allegedly forging the Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vishaka Yadav's signature. The accused was nabbed from Papu Nallah on a complaint filed by the DC.

As per police reports, Mangkum had created the DC's signature at a printing press in Itanagar and utilized it to create several fake sanction orders.

A case has been filed against him under sections 336(3) and 338 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Investigations found that he had prepared nine sanction orders worth Rs 90 lakhs using a fake signature.

The forgery was revealed after Deputy Commissioner Vishaka Yadav found irregularities in official reports and approached the authorities. Mangkum had been booked Monday by Deputy Commissioner Vishaka Yadav on her complaint that the latter had tampered with her signature on two sanction orders each worth Rs 10 lakhs.

The money was said to be for infrastructure development, such as the repair of the road from the PWD road to Patuk ADC headquarters and the building of a drainage system along the same road.

After his arrest, Mangkum is being detained by the police as the inquiry is ongoing. The authorities are investigating whether Mangkum alone or in the company of some accomplices engaged in the scam.
