ITANAGAR: Agriculture Minister Gabriel D. Wangsu urged the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh to stand together in unity and brotherhood.
He emphasized that the connection between Assam and Arunachal goes beyond mere geographical closeness. "It is firmly grounded in shared histories, intertwined cultures, and lasting relationships between our communities," Wangsu stated during his address at the Charaideo Mahotsav in Assam on Friday.
Highlighting the unique bond between the Wancho tribe of Arunachal and the Ahom dynasty, Wangsu recalled the historic matrimonial alliance between Queen Nape Wangcha of the Wancho tribe and an Ahom king. He pointed out that her well-preserved grave in Kanubari remains a lasting testament to this enduring connection.
Wangsu stated, "This bond is not merely a historical fact; it symbolizes love, respect, and unity, which have defined the relationship between our people for centuries."
Wangsu congratulated the people of Assam on the Charaideo Maidams being granted UNESCO World Heritage status and praised the festival for its role in raising awareness about these sacred burial sites and their historical importance.
Launched in 2015, the Charaideo Festival seeks to honor the historical and cultural heritage of the Charaideo Maidams, which served as the first capital of the Ahom dynasty.
The event was attended by several international diplomats, including Myanmar Ambassador Zaw Oo, Deputy Chief of Mission and Counsellor of the Lao PDR Embassy Kongkeo Sayvangmeuang, Conrad Nana Kojo Asiedu from the Ghana High Commission, and Joseph A. Kawinga from the Malawi High Commission, as well as Assam's Sonari MLA Dharmeswar Konwar.
