SELA: A series of vehicle crashes near Sela Tunnel in West Kameng district were witnessed on Wednesday morning largely because of icy road conditions and poor visibility.

It began when an Army vehicle rammed into a Tata Sumo, coming from Tawang towards Guwahati, that led to a chain reaction with several other vehicles skidding off the road.

Fortunately, no death or injury was reported in connection with the accidents. Snowfall during the night has covered the stretch of road from Sela to Jang with a thick layer of white, making the situation more and more difficult to manage, therefore increasing the possibility of accidents.

The administrations of the Tawang and West Kameng districts are issuing traffic advisories in an active manner to tackle the hazardous driving conditions. They are cautioning the tourists to be more careful while moving through the roads covered with snow and to keep their vehicles well prepared with snow chains for a better grip and safety.

Local authorities are monitoring the situation very closely and advising everyone to be very careful with safety protocols being in place so that such incidents don't occur again. The drivers have been advised to be careful and ready for terrible traveling conditions since winter remains in the area. The public is encouraged to be aware of the latest weather and road conditions for safe traveling all winter season long.
