Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein and other officials flagged off the race at the Golden Pagoda, emphasizing the importance of such events in promoting fitness, economic growth, and adventure sports in the state.
Mein also highlighted the state's efforts to organize marathons in both high-altitude and tropical areas to inspire the youth, especially those struggling with addiction, to engage in sports and fitness.
The marathon saw 952 participants across four race categories: 42 km, 21 km, 10 km, and a 5 km fun run. It included professional athletes, local runners, and students, making it a community-driven event.
The event also focused on sustainability by partnering with Nature’s Orbit Collective Foundation to ensure a zero-waste, plastic-free race. With a vision to further develop sports, the government is working on new football stadiums in Namsai and strengthening its ties with football organizations. The marathon's success marks the beginning of a new era for sports in Arunachal Pradesh.
