ITANAGAR: The government public sector company Oil India Limited (OlL) has received extortion threats of Rs. 20 lakh by the insurgent group NSCN (K-YA). The petroleum company, which operates in the heavily forested Manabhum Reserve, located in the Changlang and Namsai districts of eastern Arunachal Pradesh, has received the extortion warning from the faction.

OlL has since greatly strengthened security measures in the Manabhum Reserve Forest.

According to Buzarbaruah, senior corporate representatives are in communication with the Arunachal Pradesh government about the issue, including Chief Managing Director (CMD) Ranjit Rath.

Forty members of the Indian Reserve Battalion currently guard the site, and the state government has supplied an additional 22 Special Task Force (STF) officers.

In order to strengthen security even more, he added, ten additional STF officers are anticipated to arrive shortly.

One of the company's most important outputs is the 100 kilolitres of crude oil produced daily from the company's wells in the Manabhum Reserve Forest.

The extortion note has raised concerns not only within the organisation but also in the surrounding area, where threats from insurgents are a common occurrence.
