Itanagar: Police in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district have solved a series of theft cases reported from Diyun police station with the arrest of a habitual offender following a dramatic undercover operation.
Superintendent of Police Kirli Padu informed that the operation was led by Diyun police station officer-in-charge, Inspector Ongsa Ronrang, who went undercover, disguised as a piglet buyer.
Dressed in a local lungi, traditional hand bag, Assamese towel, and slippers, the officer posed as a villager to avoid raising suspicion. The accused, identified as 24-year-old Jogleen Mossang, a drug addict from Dumba Mossang village, failed to recognize the disguised officer and was caught after a brief scuffle. During the confrontation, Inspector Ronrang sustained a minor injury on his left hand. The accused has been remanded to judicial custody.
According to the SP, the arrest is linked to a string of thefts reported between June 7 and July 13 from Innao Government Higher Secondary School.
The school had been targeted multiple times, with various items stolen including ceiling fans, inverters, batteries, a laptop, printer, monitor, and a solar panel.
Following Mossang’s arrest, police recovered most of the stolen items from his possession. Some were sold to locals in Udoipur-I and Dumpather, while others were found hidden in a pit near his house, camouflaged with dry leaves. During preliminary questioning, the accused confessed to committing the thefts to support his drug habit.
