ITANAGAR: The state cabinet of Arunachal Pradesh has decided to give a proposal to the Government of India for a 100-seat medical college and a 420-bedded hospital at Namsai under the Aspirational District Programme. Estimated to have a total cost of ₹375 crore, the PPP model project looks
forward to bridging the gap between healthcare services and medical education in the area. The first cabinet meeting of 2025 held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Pema Khandu decided on the resolution.
Along with this, the cabinet sanctioned reimbursement benefits to two major hydropower projects namely the 700 MW Tato II Hydroelectric Project and 1,720 MW Kamala Hydroelectric Project. The former one is located on Siyom River in Shi Yomi District and the latter one on Kamala River in Upper Subansiri district.
Both the projects would be implemented as joint ventures between the state government and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) with 26% of equity share of the state.
These hydropower schemes amount to an aggregate investment of about ₹35,000 crore and are expected to produce free power worth almost ₹470 crore and Local Area Development Fund of ₹79 crore every year after commissioning.
The cabinet also approved the Arunachal Pradesh Policy for Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Projects under Special Circumstances, 2025, that will revive some of the projects that were already stalled. Some approvals included the opening of new positions in different departments to strengthen infrastructural and developmental programs in the state.
