ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) RP Upadhyaya reviewed the 'Crime Criminal Tracking Network System' (CCTNS) across the State in a conference with senior police officials of the State, here.

This mission mode project of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) is totally based on the Internet, pointed out Upadhyaya while briefing media persons at the Police headquarters.

Earlier, the Police chief had a threadbare discussion on CCTNS with the Superintendents of Police (SPs) and senior Police officers on how to contain crimes, during a conference here.

The investigating police officers could check the records through the Internet from their police station and police headquarters to update themselves in several criminal cases and pending cases, he said. This would help them to take necessary action on time to contain crimes and improve security scenario of the State, he added.

However, many parts of the State lack proper Internet facility for which Arunachal Pradesh has been lagging behind in comparison to other North East States, he said, pointing out that the activities of many police stations of various districts were reviewed for taking prompt actions. The vision document of the State Police for the next five years was also discussed which would be submitted to the State government for necessary action, he said.

The DGP added that the State Police have taken bold steps for modernization by procuring several equipments, including fire tenders, water cannon and electronically-fitted tear gas sprayer Vajra van, a few of which have been sent to the districts as per their requirements.

Pointing out that infrastructure development has been badly affected due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he said that works of all the approved projects like construction of police barracks, housing projects including police stations have resumed slowly. All the 175 projects for modernization and infrastructures have been approved on priority, the DGP added.
