ITANAGAR: A 15-day familiarization exercise by the 12th battalion of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) started at Yingkiong in Upper Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh on Monday.
Organised by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the program includes a School Safety Programme (SSP) and Community Awareness Programme (CAP), aimed at boosting disaster resilience among students, teachers, and the local community.
The exercise began with an SSP at Pedong Nane School, Yingkiong, where the NDRF team educated students and teachers on disaster awareness and essential management skills.
The team discussed disaster scenarios like earthquakes, floods, and fires, providing guidance on effective responses. Demonstrations included life-saving techniques such as CPR, first aid, and fire safety protocols. Evacuation drills were also conducted to familiarize students with safe practices during emergencies.
