ITANAGAR: PCI is proud to announce that three exceptional para-athletes from Arunachal Pradesh have been selected to represent the nation at the International Para Athletics Championship 2025.
This global celebration of sporting excellence and resilience promises to be one of the world's greatest athletic events, held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, on February 2-4.
The selected athletes include Techi Datam, Techi Sonu, and Likha Nipa. These athletes are selected with excellence through their dedication and outstanding performance.
Techi Datam will participate in the shot put and discus throw with the F-46 category. Techi Sonu also participates in the same events; however, the F-44 category will host her.
Likha Nipa is a promising sprinter and will compete in the 100-meter and 200-meter races within the T-13 category. This goes on to speak to the ever-increasing presence of Arunachal Pradesh as a platform for para-athletic excellence.
The players are leaving for the UAE on 30th January. So they have enough time to acclimatize themselves before the tournament. The tournament is being held by Althiqah Club for the Disabled at Sharjah. World Para Athletics has accepted this event, and para-athletes from all parts of the world are participating. This is one of the significant events where the para-athletes can come out and give others a positive inspiration with their hard work and tenacity.
The Paralympic Association of Arunachal has expressed great pride in the trio, which has undergone stringent preparation and the unwavering support they have received from their coaches, families, and the broader community. Their selection underlines the importance of fostering sports for individuals with disabilities and the transformative power of inclusive opportunities.
One of the most anticipated events on the para-athletics calendar, the championship seeks to be an inclusive, athletic excellence-based event that creates global friendships. It is also in such participation that the athletes, including Datam, Sonu, and Nipa, bring an increase in the stature of Indian representation on the world stage, motivating hundreds of others back home.
